Do-Over!

I thought perhaps I could write away some of my frustrations over this DIY project and maybe work out what to do next. First, some background to let you know how invested I am in this.....

I'm 41, I've never had a headboard...you know, like a grown up. I've always had a queen mattress on a metal frame...you know, the cheapo frame that creaks and groans and threatens to dump you in the floor. Since we moved I've been looking for headboards....nothing inexpensive suited me perfectly and I'm simply too cheap to spend a gazillion dollars on the ones I deemed "perfect" (think Pottery Barn and almost $2,000).

I finally came up with a plan and we found some closet doors at a resale shop for $20. I cut them in half, mounted them like I wanted them, and proceeded to paint them with a two-step crackle finish....that failed to crackle....okay, it really failed to do much of anything....I'm deeming the cans defective, or maybe the paint was too old, but whatever it was it wasn't crackled or even really painted. Major malfunction.

So, yesterday I spent a couple hours in the garage (think 100 degrees and stuffy) with sandpaper. I couldn't use the power sander because I had to do each little slat individually, by hand.....I put a little wall paint on the left most panel just to see what it would look like and how it was going to take paint and so forth...I brought it in to take the pic and leaning against the wall it is obvious that I need a contrasting paint, but I want all neutrals....I don't want something that is going to dictate the bedding colors, I want something that will allow me to change the bedding on a whim. Wait, what I really want is for the damn project to be finished!

I guess I'm making a run to Lowe's for paint today....

I hate it when a plan doesn't come together. Better luck with the new paint!

BTW...how did that yellow go with the hexi quilt when you got it home?

Oh man! I made a headboard out of a French door a couple weeks ago. We are probably brain twins.

I hope you had better luck and didn't need a do-over. Finally, I'm happy with the paint, but it is still leaning against the dining room wall....it is likely to be there until Thanksgiving...perhaps I can decorate it with fall leaves and call it my Autumnal Installment!
