Summer Goals

I suppose if you read this blog you know of some of my summer goals and frankly, I can't remember if I've talked about them or not. Sometimes I write the blog entry in my head, but never actually type it so I never know if I'm repeating myself and I'm too lazy to read my own blog. So there you have it.....

Now, for my summer goals. Well, of course I've got to finish my thesis and I am making progress, but I discovered long ago that I need to do creative things to keep my sanity. I squeeze in a little sewing time every few days.

One sewing goal is to use up my stash and most especially my scraps....I have bins and bins of scraps. I'm working in a quilt shop again and that is dangerous territory because that is how I ended up with yards and yards and yards of fabric in the first place. I had to promise myself that I wouldn't go nuts buying more fabric. A second goal is to go with the flow more and stop trying to control everything.

This first little quilt used all scraps and it was an exercise in randomness...I did not engineer (ie. control) it at all. I made two stacks and sewed two pieces together without regard for pattern or color and you know what? I LOVE IT!
(The center blocks are 6 1/2 inch I-Spy blocks and everything else is 2 1/2 inch strips)

This second one is even more random and again... I LOVE IT and you know what else I love? ....It didn't take 15 years for me to finish the top (now, the quilting is another story). If you've been reading awhile then you know that finishing things is a serious issue for me....probably even more serious than my issues with controlling things.
(This quilt is entire 2 1/2 inch squares and strips.)

Totally LIBERATING!

You know, I never think I'm going to like scrap quilts, and then I love them more than the "planned" ones. Yeah, I have control issues with fabric, too.

I love how yours came out. It's fantastic! Congratulations! Now go quilt that baby!
