Hard Day's Work

Another hard day of demo and I was very sad to see my mosiac tile go...Sadly, it had to as removing the tub broke up the edge. This was my first tile job...I taught myself using instructions I found on the internet. Yeah, internet! I was really proud of doing the work myself, the physical work and the figuring out part.

Even though I love the mosiac look I'm not up for laying all those little bitty pieces again, so I think we are going to go with slate, dark black/gray/earthy slate....we will see what we end up with since I wake up each morning with a different idea of what I want the end result to look like. This morning there was green in the vision...this evening? No green!

All In a Day's Work: More Demolition

I sort of wanted to keep the ceiling tile that I had used for the walls way back when, but as you might be able to see I found a small patch of mold under the stacked baseboards. It wasn't much of a surprise, we know we have a leak in that drain lower down. Even though it wasn't a surprise I am always optimistic when I start something so I hate it when I get thrown a curve like that. I did envision keeping the ceiling tiles wall and re-painting it, but I will admit that I'm not too sad about getting to do something different after nine years. The house was built in 1975 so nothing is straight forward.

I am whipped....I tore out all the drywall behind the sink area, all the drywall in the shower, AND scraped the popcorn-crap off the ceiling. YIKES. At some point I get to do the fun stuff....picking tile and paint and such, but tomorrow I will start on the tub and tile. Yes, the tub is going...Woo Hoo!!

Working at a Quilt Shop is Good Clean Fun

I have found the perfect partnership with Granny O....she doesn't like to pick the fabrics and I love to play with the colors AND I don't want to tackle seemingly "hard" quilts....I pick and she sews and everyone is happy! I love it.

Stop Grasping for Control of the Uncontrollable

I've been having some issues just letting go and going with the flow...though that is what I want to do in my heart, I'm just a little too controlling to really let it happen. I'm especially having trouble with my schedule at work, but it bleeds into my whole world; the errands, the chores, the duties and obligations....I feel pulled in too many directions because I can't just let some things go....

I found the following typed and saved as a Word document, so clearly at some point I thought it applicable to my life. I had forgotten about it and as usual, just when I needed to be reminded that I cannot control everything, there it was to remind me.

From Yoga Journal:

Every morning repeat a gatha (mindfulness verse):

"Great is the matter of birth and death; impermanence surrounds us. Be awake each moment; do not waste your life."

The article went on to say: "Life doesn't give you breathing room, but if you stop grasping for control of the uncontrollable, you can learn to breathe through it all."

After a hiatus....I'm back to the blogosphere

Well, firstly let me explain that I have taken a hiatus of just over a week because my computer inhabits the guest room and the guest room was occupied by in-laws and I just decided it might be nice if I wasn't ensconced upon the chair in "their" bedroom while they were here.

Secondly, the hiatus was very nice, but I missed my blogging. I'm not going to try to re-cap all that has happened since I last wrote, but will just start with today. After work at the Library of Misfit Toys, I was just itching to run....the day was super warm (over 80 degrees) and the sun had been shining brightly all day. I know I said in an earlier post that I woke up knowing I wasn't going to run anymore....but maybe that should have been "I wasn't going to train anymore". I came straight in, changed, and then kicked out 3 miles (probably slow) and by the time I was finished it was dark. We walked the dogs in the dark too and it was amazing....I felt decent considering I haven't run in something like two weeks. I think I just needed the time in my own head and I definitely needed to blow off the day's work drama. The library job is proving to be a little more "interesting" than I had thought it would be....

Belated Solstice

I noticed coming from work that it wasn't quite as dark tonight as it was last week. I love that about Solstice...the turning of the tide, so to speak. Knowing that the sun will be out longer and longer makes my heart sing and pushes the blues just a little farther away from me, though they are still present and acknowledged.

I've worked three long days and find myself utterly exhausted, thus no posting. This is the first night I've come home and turned on the computer...sitting is pure heaven after being on my feet all day. I still hope to post every day and maybe that will happen in the New Year, but I won't beat myself up for not writing...I beat myself up far too much as it is.

Of course, I can't really think straight being as tired as I am and don't have much to say....if you celebrate Christmas then I hope it is merry...We celebrate Solstice and some random day that we pick arbitrarily is our family celebration and both of those are behind me and I feel the next four days that I am off work opening before me...opening up to endless possibilities.

Back in the Blogging Saddle

Hey folks, I've been gone awhile...adjusting to a new schedule as I've started to work part-time at the public library. Oh how lovely it is to be surrounded by books! I'm sorry about the hiatus, but I just couldn't adjust and make the time for the computer....people first, you know. Lots to tell....I'll try to catch up in the coming days.
